Clashes took place overnight in the southern West Bank between Palestinians protesting the Israeli attacks on Gaza and Israeli soldiers. Dozens of Palestinians were wounded. A general strike throughout the West Bank, called for by the political parties, will be held Tuesday.

Clashes took place overnight in the southern West Bank town of Hebron, where hundreds of Palestinians demonstrated at the western entrance of Shuhada Street in the city’s Bab el Zawya area. The demonstration, called for by the Hamas, was held in protest of Israel’s attack on the Gaza Strip. Israeli soldiers responded with live ammunition, causing injury to 25 people who were taken to the Hebron Hospital. Hospital sources report that two of the Palestinians were injured in their upper body while the remaining 23 were hurt in their lower body. Palestinian protesters threw rocks and molotov cocktails at the soldiers. The clashes lasted for over three hours.

An additional three Palestinians were injured in the southern entrance to Saeer, a town situated close to Hebron. All were treated in a local medical clinic.

In the main entrance to the town of Beit Ummar, 17 Palestinians were injured by Israeli forces; nine of them were wounded by live ammunition while the others were hurt by rubber-coated steel bullets.

Additional clashes between Palestinian protesters and Israeli soldiers took place in additional areas in the West Bank, including Bethlehem and the Aljalazon refugee camp, located northeast of Ramallah.

A general strike will take place today throughout the entire West Bank. Shops will be closed and public transportation halted. The strike was called for by the Palestinian national and Islamic political parties in protest of Israel’s massacre in Gaza. Marches will be held in most West Bank cities and villages.
