From January 18 to 30, Pioneer Valley Mobilization for Another World

Emily Kawano

The solidarity economy is an emerging economic framework grounded in real practice and anchored in principles of solidarity, cooperation, participatory democracy, equality in all dimensions and sustainability.

This issue will be one of events in the Pioneer Valley linked with the WSF Global Mobilization. The activities will start at January 18th, with the Iraq motarorium vigils, a non-localized, decentralized call to action around the unpopular war in Iraq. "Over 70% of Americans are against this war", say Eric Wasileski (meekman@wildmail.com or, from www.iraqmoratorium.org. This is a chance to mobilize locally.

Another numerous events include volunteer workdays with community organizations, drop-in meditation, workshops on Universal Single Paye

On January 22, the Global Week of Action towards Another Possíble World start with an activity to introduce the "Solidarity Economy" as an alternative economic framework that is grounded in solidarity and cooperation, rather than the pursuit of narrow, individual self-interest.

It promotes social and economic democracy, equity in all dimensions (race, class, gender, etc), and sustainability.

Emily Kawano is Executive Director, Center for Popular Economics at UMass Amherst (www.populareconomics.org). He will introduce the issue. Contact: Emily Kawano, 545-0743; programs@populareconomics.org. More at Center of Popular Economics
